ICOWPEA kick off meeting in Cotonou

ICOWPEA kick off meeting in Cotonou from 7 to 9 June 2017

The meeting was attented by about thirty people  including researchers and technicians of the FSA/UAC (UMR NutriPass) IRD and Cirad (UMR Innovation and UMR QualiSud). The company ALITECH was also represented by its Director.  

Personalities of the cowpea value chain, based in Cotonou (producers and processors) and representatives of public organizations were also invited: INRAB (Office of the agronomic research Institute National in Benin), the Town council of Cotonou, the FNRSIT (National Fund for scientific research and Technological Innovation), GEA (Group of farmers of Benin), the ABREVIT (Beninese of valuation research and Innovation Technology Agency) and the AFDI (French farmers and International Development).

The objective of the meeting was to describe the project to the local actors of the cowpea chain, to begin establishing a participatory innovation platform but also to make a point of progress of the project and its prospects.

After an introductory session, a point was made on the participatory diagnosis of the cowpea chain and the characterization of the actors. Then were addressed the investigation of consumption and nutritional activities conducted with cowpea processing companies and households. Finally the work-package "Participatory consumer-centered cowpea product and process reengineering", as well as assessment of the sustainability of innovation methodologies were discussed before making one point administrative point of the project
